Each year participants run and walk the 5k trail course through a shady maritime hammock ecosystem on a hard-packed shell path before finishing on the beach sand of the Gulf of Mexico.
The course ends at the pavilion overlooking the beach where refreshments are served and awards are presented. More information on registration will be available here as the date draws closer. Check back each month.
Maribeth Richards ran the 2016 race. Here's what she had to say when she finished:
"I loved running this race course, especially the shady portion of the trail. I loved finishing on the beach, where after the race I jumped in the Gulf to cool off!"
The results of the 2016 race are as follows:
First Overall, Joanna Citarella (F) and Arye Beck (M).
First Masters, Beth Schadd (F) and Greg Pelican(M).
First Grandmaster, Maureen O'Higgins (F) and Sammy Mapes (M).
First Senior Grandmaster, Marilyn Duarte (F) and Craig Harrington (M).
Proceeds from the race benefit the Friends of Lovers Key, Inc. so that we can continue our mission to help protect, preserve and support Lovers Key State Park
